London, November 11, 2024: International demand for CFOs at record levels – For the second consecutive year, CFOs are more in demand than CEOs – Shepard Fox helps promote the Global CFO Turnover Index
CFOs (Chief Financial Officers) of publicly traded international companies are stepping into the spotlight. Once overshadowed by CEOs, CFOs are now more in demand than Chief Executives, with global interest in financial executives reaching record levels for the second year in a row. By the end of Q3 2024, companies within the top twelve global stock indices had appointed 224 new CFOs, nearly matching the previous year’s 233. In comparison, only 161 CEOs were appointed in the same period this year, nearly a third fewer. This trend is highlighted in the Global CFO Turnover Index, tracked by Russell Reynolds Associates, a leading leadership advisory.

London, July 3, 2024: For the first time, the proportion of women on Germany’s top supervisory boards reaches the 40% mark – Shepard Fox supports executive search firm Russell Reynolds in promoting results of its research studies
For the first time in history, the total proportion of women shareholder representatives in the supervisory boards of the 40 largest German listed companies reached the 40% mark. In 25 out of 40 DAX companies, the proportion of women is now at or above 40%. SAP and Adidas have fallen below the legally required 30%. Despite the DAX 40 approaching the 40% threshold, compared with other major European stock indices, it sits in the middle of the table. France tops the list with women holding 46% of their board seats, followed by Norway, Italy, the UK, Denmark and the Netherlands. Germany is in seventh place, ahead of Spain, Finland, Sweden and Switzerland.

More than a quarter of CEOs who left global listed companies in 2023 were dismissed as the challenges facing top business leaders are mounting. Analysis from leadership advisory firm Russell Reynolds Associates showed that 178 chief executive roles changed hands in 2023, 10% of CEOs of firms across 12 international stock markets, a record figure showing that pressures on CEOs today are multiplying, from driving net-zero to inflationary, supply chain and geopolitical pressures. The analysis also found that women chief executives are being fired at a much higher rate than their male counterparts leading to a gap in average CEO tenure of 8.7 years for men versus 4.1 years for women. This year, for the first time in the history of Germany’s most important stock market index DAX, more women than men were elected to the supervisory boards of Germany’s 40 largest listed companies: 55% of all newly awarded mandates went to women.
